What is Exfoliation?
Exfoliating is skin treatment where the upper layers of dead skin cells are sloughed off by a loofah sponge, sea salt, brush, or by other means. You can exfoliate any area of skin. When exfoliating your face, use products that are designed for your face.
Why Exfoliate?
Exfoliation helps to speed up the process of skin flaking and shedding, by taking off the uppermost, dead layer of cells to expose the finer, more translucent tissue underneath.
The average human generates a new layer of skin every two to four weeks. At the end of the cycle, the old, dead cells on the surface are shed. You can improve your complexion tremendously by exfoliating and sloughing off the old, dead skin cells. If the old, dead skin cells are not removed, they can clog the sebaceous pores, leading to superficial spots or blackheads.
Types of Exfoliators
There are two primary types of exfoliators: mechanical and chemical.
Mechanical exfoliators contain minuscule pieces of grit that, when rubbed on your skin, dislodge the dead skin cells. The most common grit comes from walnut shells and apricot pits. J.Oberon does not recommend the use of these exfoliants because they can tear the skin and lead to infection. Oatmeal and other "natural" exfoliants are touted by many. Unfortunately, many natural materials and grains can become rancid over time and, in addition to be too aggressive, can also introduce dangerous fungus and bacteria into your skin.
J.Oberon Morocco™ exfoliates gently using our exclusive Microfoliate™ ultra-fine cosmetic-grade clay that does not tear your skin in the process of exfoliation.
Chemical exfoliators do the same task as their mechanical siblings but by using mild acids in place of shrapnel. Exfoliating products usually contain alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, or salicylic acids. Unless directed by a competent dermatologist, J.Oberon advises you to AVOID the use of chemical exfoliants.
How to Exfoliate
- Wet the area of skin you want to exfoliate.
- Use a fine quality synthetic scrubbing sponge, exfoliating gloves or a quality body loofah.
- Apply Morocco™ by J.Oberon to your skin or lather it onto your sponge.
- Making circular motions, gently scrub Morocco™ over your skin using your sponge or loofah.
- Be gentle over sensitive parts of the body, like delicate neck and thigh tissue.
- Rinse your skin thoroughly.
- Follow up with any J.Oberon moisturizing glycerin soap for proper skin moisturizing..
Exfoliation Tips
- When exfoliating the face, use products specifically designed for the face. J.Oberon's Morocco™ is designed for all areas of your body.
- Exfoliation products designed exclusively for your body are often too abrasive and irritating for your face.
- Exfoliate no more than once a week, unless directed otherwise by your dermatologist.
- Exfoliating causes your skin to dry out. Morocco™ by J.Oberon provides effective moisturizing.
- Dry skin is an invitation to disease and wrinkles! You may also want to follow up with any J.Oberon Moisturizing soap for additional protection.
- Easy does it! Aggressive exfoliation can cause significant skin damage as well as make your dermis vulnerable to infection and drying.
